Heatwave Update

25th June 2026

Dear Parents / Carers

Following my previous communications regarding the current heatwave, I am writing to confirm that school will to remain open tomorrow, as temperatures are forecast to reduce slightly.

However, I would like to make you aware that the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has extended the Red Heat Health Alert until midnight tomorrow. While we are hopeful that conditions will be more manageable, the safety and wellbeing of our pupils remains our absolute priority.

Staff have shown remarkable dedication over the past few days, working tirelessly in very challenging conditions to support the children. I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude for their commitment and professionalism.

We have found that temperatures within the building rise significantly during the afternoon, and some children have understandably struggled to tolerate the full day. With this in mind, we may need to contact you to request early collection if we feel that your child’s wellbeing is being adversely affected.

Please ensure that you are contactable during the day and that arrangements are in place, should an early collection be necessary.

As always, thank you for your continued understanding, flexibility and support during what are unprecedented conditions (although I am just about old enough to remember 1976!).

Yours sincerely,

Sarah Pickering
Headteacher
