1st March 2024
Dear Parents and Carers,
Unbelievably I was involved in a snow ball fight today. Following an intense downpour of giant hailstones, some of class 10 boys played well with one another and shared the dust pan and brush to sweep up the hail stones saying "it's like Christmas"...
Plants and Growing
Class 5 have enjoyed a trip to the garden centre this week to buy beans, they have then enjoyed planting their own bean plants in class as part of our plants and growing topic. In our topic session we talked about what plants need to grow and went for a walk around the grounds to see what plants, flowers and trees we could find.
Jack and the Beanstalk
Class 6 children have been immersing themselves in the story 'Jack and the Beanstalk'. The children have enjoyed acting out the main characters with the help of some useful props (beanstalk, beans, cow, harp, golden egg and floating castle!). We have seen a cross mother, hungry Jack and a loud Giant! The children have used what they have learnt about the story and applied this knowledge into their writing and have created their very own sentences.
Time, Coding and Phonics
Class 7 have had a fantastic start to the half term, enjoying playing and working together as a class. We have had lots of fun learning to tell the time; now we can tell if we are late getting ready for lunch, or home time!
We have been learning about coding computers and have practiced building sequences of instructions and making our partners (and teachers!) move forwards, backwards, left and right like robots.
We are all very proud of how well we have been extending our descriptive writing, especially using our phonics knowledge to have a go at spelling. As always, we have loved our visits from the therapy dogs and asking questions about their lives.
Food and Coding
Class 12 have been learning about how food gets from farms to our forks. They went to Tesco and had a behind the scenes visit looking at how food is sorted and prepared for the shop and the different jobs involved in the process.
They have also been learning how to use block code to control devices. So far they have made a digital name tag and created a sequence of flashing pictures on a loop.
Tesco Donation
Thank you to Lisa at Tesco for the donation of 2 bags of compost and 17 packets of seeds and beans. This will be used by classes in our allotment as many of our pupils enjoy working with the land and enjoy planting and helping plants grow, right through to preparing, cooking, and eating the produce.
CBeebies Toys and Games
We are looking for figures, books or puzzles linked to the current CBeebies favourites - Octonauts, Hey Duggee, Twirlywoos, and Bing. Please do let us know if you have any that you no longer need, or know someone who might be willing to donate them to the school. Thank you.
