Science Week 2025

11th July 2025

Last week we all greatly enjoyed taking part in Science Week

The theme for the week was Our World in Space

The week was launched on Monday with Space themed Sensory stories. Some classes enjoyed listening to the story of ‘Whatever Next!’ while exploring a range of props through their senses. Other classes learnt about the planets and shared various planetary sensory experiences!

On Tuesday we explored Space art. Some of us created moon in space pictures using a variety of skills including painting and sticking.

Other classes explored watercolour painting to create their favourite planet in space. They all enjoyed watching the paint colours blend and create interesting patterns when salt was added.

We also explored the phases of the moon by creating our own moving moon phase pictures.

On Wednesday we all enjoyed working in a space lab; exploring a variety of scientific principles inspired by space.

We made bubbling planets with bicarbonate of soda, vinegar and food colours.

We explored how ‘Ruby Red Mars Gloop’ turned from a liquid to a solid.

We also found out that Mercury is magnetic and enjoyed exploring pushes and pulls of magnets.

Some of us explored the awe and wonder of outer space in the dark den with torches.

We also created our own Solar System pictures.

On Thursday & Friday we all came back down to Earth to learn about plants and animals on our planet.

We explored a variety of fruits and vegetables through our senses, looking closely at how different seeds can be. The avocado seed was very hard and big, but the pomegranate seeds were much smaller and slimy.

We also had a go at planting our own seeds.

On Friday Rosie brought in some of her animals to show us. We learnt about crabs, millipedes, snakes, a tortoise and spiders.

Everyone greatly enjoyed coming together as a whole school team to learn about Space and we’re already looking forward to our next enrichment event.
