Dear Parents and Carers,

Ofsted Report

You may have read our Ofsted report that was sent to you on Wednesday. We are all very pleased with the outcome. Even though the reports are short and deliberately easy to read, the two-day inspection back in March covered all areas of school life, not just curriculum. A big thank you to those of you who completed the Ofsted parent survey. Responses were overwhelmingly positive about the school and staff. Out of 121 families we received 43 responses, which is one of the highest to date. I am extremely proud of every member of staff.

Marking our Good Ofsted with pupils from reception to one of our school leavers.

But the more important bits…

Headteacher Awards

Well done to our pupils in Gemma M and Andy’s classes who received special Headteacher Awards this week for progress made with maths and writing. I particularly like how “shocked” one of our boys was in his own success. An audible gasp was recorded when he realised how well he had done.

Seeking a New Volunteer Governor

We are looking for a new volunteer Governor to join our Governing Board.

You don’t need to have any experience in education and people with no connection to the school are also invited to apply.

Generous Grant for Mill Water

The Clare Milne Trust has kindly awarded £10,000 to Mill Water School this week to support our plans to further enhance facilities for pupils.

Clare Milne was the granddaughter of A.A. Milne, the author and creator of Winnie the Pooh. She had cerebral palsy and lived in Otterton. The Trust was created to help other people with disabilities in our region. It previously donated a significant sum to Mill Water that paid for our sensory and soft play rooms. We are delighted by such tremendous support! Last year two of their Trustees enjoyed a visit to the school and wished us ‘continued success’.

Personal Learning Goals (PLGs)

We are in the process of changing when PLGs are set for pupils, moving towards them being set at the start of each new term by September 2023. You may therefore find that, while we are in the process of change, your child's targets may run for longer/shorter than usual. Please be reassured that teachers are adjusting targets accordingly to make them appropriate for the time period set. Any questions or concerns please contact your class teacher or Grace - PLGs@millwater.devon.sch.uk

Please Drive Safely

Please can all parents and carers transporting children to and from school through Bicton campus drive slowly and adhere to the one-system in place through the Bicton car park. Thank you.
