Post 16 Consultation Outcome

9th May 2023

Dear Parents/Carers,

Thank you to everyone who contacted the governing body during the consultation period. All views and comments were considered, along with the discussions that were had at the face to face consultation meeting on March 8th.

I am writing to inform you that:

The proposal to close Mill Water’s 6th form from September 2023 will not move forward to a formal representation period and therefore is being withdrawn at this time.

An informal consultation took place on two proposals from the 22 February to 31 March 2023:

Proposal 1: to close the post 16 provision to new entrants from 2023/24 with Mill Water School thereby altering its age range from 3-19 to 3-16 and;

Proposal 2: to increase the number of registered places from 100 to 112 in the age range 3-16 from September 2023.

A consultation meeting was held with parents on 8 March 2023.

There were 16 objections received to Proposal 1: to close the post-16 provision.  Many parents raised their objection and concerns at the consultation meeting to the proposal to close the post-16 provision.

In respect of Proposal 2: to increase places, there was 1 response.

The Governors held a meeting of the Full Governing Board on 3 May 2023 and considered all the responses received to both proposals and the feedback received at the consultation meeting.  The Governors decided to not proceed with Proposal 1 at this present time and therefore this proposal is being withdrawn.  The Governors agreed to proceed and continue with the statutory process in respect of Proposal 2: to increase the number of registered places for 3-16 year olds.

Proposal 2 will therefore now proceed to a four-week formal representation period to which comments and objections will be invited.  This will likely be from 5 June to 3 July 2023.

Yours sincerely
