DfE Decision on Significant Changes

7th July 2026

Dear Parents / Carers

I am writing to update you regarding the Department for Education's decision following its consideration of the Trust's proposals relating to the Seaton Hub development and the closure of the post-16 provision at Mill Water School.

I am pleased to confirm that the Department for Education has now reached its decision and is supportive of the proposals that have been put forward by the Trust.

This is an important milestone and provides greater certainty as we continue to develop and strengthen the educational offer available to children and young people across our school community.

As we move into the next phase of this work, Mill Water School and the Special Partnership Trust remain fully committed to working closely with parents, carers, staff, governors and wider stakeholders. We recognise that change can bring questions and uncertainty, and we are determined to ensure that all voices continue to be heard as the plans develop.

Over the coming months, we will make every effort to continue engaging with families and stakeholders as we refine and develop the future provision and offer at Mill Water School. Our focus throughout this process will remain on securing the very best outcomes for both current and future children and young people who attend the school.

We would like to thank everyone who has contributed their views, feedback and support throughout this process. Your engagement has been invaluable in helping shape our plans.

Should you have any questions or wish to discuss any aspect of the proposals, please do not hesitate to contact the school or the Trust. We are committed to maintaining open and transparent communication as this work progresses.

Thank you for your continued support as we work together in the best interests of the children and young people we serve.

Yours sincerely,

Guy Chappell
CEO Special Partnership Trust
