Dear Parents and Carers,

Children In Need

Pupils have really enjoyed raising money for Children in Need this year. Class 5 participated in a sponsored bike ride. The weather didn't put them off as they sped around! The children also enjoyed making some Pudsey themed biscuits ready for the Mill Water bake off!

Class 1 enjoyed taking part in a variety of Children in Need Pudsey Bear activities; making gingerbread Pudsey biscuits, icing and decorating them with Smarties, making Pudsey bear ears and lots of dancing for our sponsored dance. Well done Class 1!

Class 4 had great fun raising money for Children in Need. They made Pudsey headbands to wear in the school parade, they baked a cake for the Children in Need bake off and they enjoyed a sponsored walk around the grounds of Bicton College.

Class 9 really enjoyed getting in the spirit of Children in Need. The class baked a sponge cake for the great Mill Water bake off and demonstrated excellent turn taking skills and read the recipe carefully. They also raised some money for Children in Need by taking part in a sponsored cycle. Special shout out to CH who cycled for over 20 minutes whilst listening to Christmas music!

Peace Posters

Pupils in Niki’s class have participated in a Peace Poster activity that was sponsored by the Budleigh Salterton Lions Club. They engaged really well with this activity and talked about the importance of showing kindness to everyone through both actions and words.

Budleigh Salterton Lions Club President Richard Allen said he was moved and impressed by the expression and creativity of pupils’ work. “It is obvious that these young people have wonderful ideas about what peace means to them. I’m so pleased that we were able to help provide them with the opportunity to share their visions.” The Lions also donated vouchers for The Range, which pupils will use to choose art materials for future projects. Their work will be exhibited at a South West regional Lions conference in north Devon next year.

Big Ben Construction

Class 12 have been learning about what goes on within Parliament and how Big Ben (Elizabeth Tower) was built. They put their own construction skills to the test, creating some splendid models.

Diwali

As part of our festival topic learning, Classes 6 and 7 have been celebrating Diwali. Their 'Festival of Lights' in class began with the story of 'King Rama's return to Ayodhya'. Next, pupils had a go at traditional Hindu Diwali dancing and then went on to enjoy craft and food activities. The children made Barfi sweets, tissue paper patterns, and tasted some chapati and naan bread.

Class 11 also learnt about Diwali. Pupils enjoyed a story and an Attention All session about the Hindu festival. They made Rangoli Patterns using coloured sand.

Donkey Sanctuary

Class 11 enjoyed meeting the donkeys when they went to the Donkey Sanctuary on one of their out and about sessions.
