Apple Week

19th October 2015

19th - 23rd October was Apple Week here at Mill Water School, with every class engaged in apple-related activities. Linked to Harvest celebrations, our pupils have been in our orchard picking apples and taking them back to class for a range of activities. There have been some lovely bakes produced across the school including apple cake, apple snow, muffins, pies and strudels. They have also produced some beautiful art work. One class made a large apple core and small apple tree sculptures while others have printed with apples or made tissue paper stained glass apples. Along the way there have been stories with an apple theme, apple maths and a range of sorting and tasting activities.

The highlight of the week for all of our children has been having the opportunity to make and drink our own apple juice. Tom Neusinger, who has led the apple pressing project, has seen every child in the school engage with using apples, from picking the fruit to enjoying the produce. ‘It has been an enriching and rewarding experience for both our pupils and the staff that have helped them.’ We would like to thank Tom for all his hard work in planning and implementing this project.

We would also like to say a big thank you to Bicton College for lending us the press and all of the equipment we needed to run the project.
