£1250 Cheque Presentation

12th November 2015

Pupils and staff were over the moon to receive a cheque for £1250 from Budleigh Lions and Budleigh Buddies last week. Head Teacher Sarah Pickering said “a huge amount of effort went in to raising the money which will go towards ensuring our hydro pool meets the needs of all our pupils”.

The money was raised during a Murder Mystery evening held on the 24th October. Guests enjoyed an evening’s entertainment of “whodunit” provided by the drama group, and were served a delicious meal courtesy of the Lions. Mill Water was offered a unique opportunity to talk to the local community about the school, as well as to thank all the guests and helpers.

During the presentation last week, members of the Budleigh Lions and Budleigh Buddies were given a tour of the school by two Mill Water pupils. Many of the Lions and Buddies are local residents, yet were seeing the school for the first time. They were surprised by the size of the building. One Lion commented that “you could be in the grounds of the College and still not know Mill Water is here”.

“Making links with the local community is a key priority for staff and pupils at Mill Water School”, said Sarah Pickering. “Finding appropriate work experience placements, as well as job and enterprise opportunities for our pupils, is vital. We want to play a key part in the local Budleigh community, just as we did during our 40 years in Honiton. We have been very warmly welcomed by local people and I can already see great opportunities for us to work together. The Murder Mystery event is just the beginning!”
