Snow Day

21st November 2024

Update: Thursday 21st November @ 5.35pm
We are sorry to announce that following a site inspection and due to the adverse weather conditions, school will be closed tomorrow, Friday 22nd November.

Please stay safe and warm.

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope this letter finds you well and warm.

I would like to explain the late notice of the school closure today, 21st November. This decision was not taken lightly and was made as early as possible – however, the unpredictable nature of the weather conditions across the local area made the situation more complex, and meant that the decision to close the school could not have been made sooner.

Adverse weather conditions did not begin to impact the Bicton area until approximately 8.15am. While some staff members were able to arrive at school without issue, others were unfortunately fully snowed in. Similarly, some buses had already collected young people, while others were unable to leave their depots.

Given the wide geographical area from which our pupils travel, it is not always possible to simply look out of the window to make a decision about school closure. We must consider the safety of all our pupils and staff, taking into account a variety of factors, including road conditions, transport availability, staffing numbers and individual circumstances.

I would like to thank those staff who did manage to make it to school despite the challenging conditions. Those few pupils who were brought in were well-cared for by our staff and enjoyed the opportunity to play in the snow.

I would also like to express my gratitude to the staff members who maintained constant communication with families, providing updates and support throughout the day.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Yours sincerely,

Sarah Pickering
Headteacher
