The Headteacher and Board of Governors are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Deputy Headteacher. Working alongside the Headteacher and current Assistant Heads, you will have clearly defined responsibilities for continuing school improvement and working strategically to lead and move the school forward. There is a 0.2 teaching commitment with this role. The post will start January 2024.
We are looking for an outstanding relationship builder: You will have knowledge of formulating the aims and objectives of the school, whilst establishing policies for achieving these aims and objectives. The post holder will be required to deputise and undertake overall responsibility for the school in the absence of the Headteacher. They will be required to ensure they lead the school and colleagues, implementing the school’s vision and ethos and communicate this with all stakeholders. They will support the Headteacher with the leadership of the school and provide quality assurance for all school activities.
You will be a strategic leader, committed to leading teams in the development of teaching and learning practice throughout the school. You will be knowledgeable about the professional development of teaching and support staff and have experience of technologies to support teaching and learning. You will have experience in working with pupils with special educational needs and/or disability and have had experience within a Leadership and Management role.
Mill Water School is a special school that works with children and young people aged 3 - 19 years with severe and profound learning difficulties, often with additional complex needs including Autism. We have aspirations for all our pupils to lead a happy, healthy and fulfilling life as adults and we want to equip them with the skills they need to be able to achieve that. We work closely with parents and carers to support our pupils in making good progress towards their future goals.
We are a member of the SENtient Trust - a Co-operative Education trust made up of the other special schools in Devon.
